one question tho, I’ve seen on lots of car sketches and renders that wheels and wheel arches tend to be more angled than they should while the body looks kind of stretched. Is that something they teach you? like drawing it that way is more aesthetically pleasing?

Also would like to know why do you peeps draw rims so big with such a thin tire?

Sorry if asking too much. great sketches!

Dramatic perspective, like using a short lens. Not quite fisheye, but pushing it.

As for the wheel/tire thing, yeah, it’s common to either just draw the wheels and suggest tires, and push the diameter of the tire way down. It “looks better,” and it’s also a convention that sort of shows the full travel of the wheel+tire in the well, without showing a big gap.

Car sketches are generally about selling the drama first.

yes, kind of imagined it was that, but never got to ask someone who really knew this stuff.

I kind get that drama thing, usually when I have to draw a clients car for artwork I have to mess up a little the car proportions, such as wheel arches, wheel size and giving the effect of using a somewhat short lens, 16mm or so.
